The city police arrested four men from Motihari in western Bihar and brought them here on Saturday in connection with robberies in at least four commercial places in Ahmedabad,including the major one at Big Bazaar.
The arrested four have been identified Salimmiya Tyajimiya Dubey,Raju Alam Diwan,Jahir Diwan and Mohammad Farooq. Eight of their alleged accomplices are wanted in the case. ACP V R Toliya,who worked on the case,said they were tracked through their mobile phones. When we tracked their location,we sent a team from Satellite Police Station to arrest them.
Police said the gang operated in 23 cities across the country,including Patna,Ranchi,Indore,Jabalpur,Malwa,Delhi,Gaziabad,Nagpur,Hyderabad,Secundarabad and Ahmedabad.
They said the gang had stolen mobile phones and cameras worth Rs 10 lakh from Big Bazaar in Ahmedabad.
They targetted big malls and showrooms to steal expensive electronic goods, Toliya said,adding that they would first run a recce of the target for a few days before breaking in. He said after the robbery,the gang would go back to Bihar. While in Ahmedabad,they stayed in hotels and lodges in areas like Paldi and Ellisbridge,he said.
The four have been remanded in police custody for 12 days.
