Splashing colours on papers, not for achieving something, but just out of love for the many hues that we see around can be fun sometimes. Besides,it can be can an enriching aesthetic experience. For Dr Davendra K Dhodawat,no subject or theme can be as fulfilling as painting the colours themselves. This self-taught artist’s ongoing solo ‘An Exogamy’ at the L&P Hutheesing Visual Art Centre in Ahmedabad is an amalgamation of the sober and the fanciful,of dark tones and liveliness,of nature and deep emotions.
An MBBS and presently the Director of West Zone Cultural Centre (Ministry of Culture),Udaipur,Dr Dhodawat doesn’t hold a formal degree in arts, but “I’ve been sketching and drawing for a long time now,” he confides.
“For the paintings exhibited, there wasn’t any prior conceptualization done. The works are simply play of colours; I wished to portray the beauty of the colours, which I’ve done based on my observations, observations of nature,of people and their emotions,” he says.
And that’s why,on most of his works done on paper,a viewer can find colours in varied moods. There’re splashes of mixed colours, there’re bold colours exploding out of the darkness, there’s the serene blue, there’s the burning red, there’s the softness of sunrise and the twilight, there’s the ubiquitous green .
‘Colours’ are Dr Dhodawat’s protagonists, protagonists that celebrate different ‘colours’ of life.
The exhibition will remain open till today from 4 pm to 8 pm.
