Asaram aide moves bail plea

Spiritual guru Asaram Bapu’s aide Shilpi, accused of sending the minor to Jodhpur ashram where the alleged sexual assault took place, moved a Jodhpur court on Wednesday seeking anticipatory bail

Jaipur:Spiritual guru Asaram Bapu’s aide Shilpi, accused of sending the minor to Jodhpur ashram where the alleged sexual assault took place, moved a Jodhpur court on Wednesday seeking anticipatory bail.

Shilpi is warden of the gurukul hostel in Chhindwara,MP,where the minor was studying and where she complained of illness. She was allegedly directed by Shilpi to meet Asaram for an ‘exorcism’ ritual as she suspected the girl was possessed by witches.

Shilpi alias Sanchita Gupta has been absconding since August 29,but sources in Jodhpur police say that she and hostel manager Sharad are on investigators’ radar. The two were asked to appear before the investigating officer in Jodhpur by August 30 for interrogation, but they did not show up and have been missing since. The police have named Shilpi a co-accused,as interrogation of Shiva,Asaram’s attendant, revealed that Shilpi conspired to send the alleged victim to Manai ashram and was constantly in touch with Asaram and Shiva through phone calls.

Shilpi,in her bail plea, however, stated that she did not know the self-styled godman personally and alleged she was being framed as part of a conspiracy.

The arguments on the plea will be held on Thursday.

A Public Interest Litigation was filed in a Jodhpur court on Wednesday seeking a Central Bureau of Investigation inquiry into the sexual assault case, and land grab cases at several Asaram ashrams.

Girl’s father demands narco test on ‘godman’

Bareilly: The father of the 16-year-old girl, allegedly sexually assaulted by self-styled godman Asaram, has demanded that a narco test be conducted on the religious preacher. Talking to reporters at his residence in neighbouring Shahjahanpur district on Tuesday, the father expressed reservation over the support pouring in from the “blind followers” of Asaram and said that if they are so sure of his innocence why does the godman not face the polygraph and brain mapping tests. “These tests would bring out the truth before the people and the world,” he said. The girl’s father said that his family is prepared for any inquiry. Stressing on a CBI inquiry,he said that those who are supporting Asaram should also demand a probe by the Central agency so that the truth could come out.
