Seven ministers of the then Modi Cabinet,several top babus on SC list of 63
The following are the names of the accused and the charges against them in the case Zakia Jafri vs State of Gujarat,and in which the Supreme Court directed the SIT to probe the role of Chief Minister Narendra Modi and 62 others including seven ministers of his then Cabinet and several officials,in the 2002 riots.
Narendra Modi. Charges: Conspiracy and instructions to Director General of Police and other senior officials to allow Hindus to give vent to their anger on Muslims.
Ashok Bhatt (the then minister of state for law). Charges: positioning himself under the chief ministers instructions in Ahmedabad police control room and plotting conspiracy and other crimes.
I K Jadeja (the then urban development minister). Charges: he positioned himself in DGPs chamber during the early days of the riots and was allegedly involved in sinister conspiracy plots and other crimes.
Prabhatsinh Chauhan (the then tourism and civil aviation minister). Charges: Sat in Ahmedabad police control room on the insistence of Chief Minister Narednra Modi and allegedly carried out conspiracy and other crimes.
Gordhan Zadafia (the then home minister). Charges: Conspiracy and instructions to DGP and police officials to allow Hindus to give vent to their anger on Muslims. Allegations of communal bias as alleged by the then Bhavnagar SP Rahul Sharma.
Nitin Patel (the then state finance minister): Charges: Liable under the concept of collective responsibility of the cabinet for all offences as alleged against Modi.
Ranjitsinh Chavda (the then cottage industries minister). Charges: Liable under the concept of collective responsibility of the cabinet for all offences as alleged against Modi.
Kaushik Patel (the then energy minister): As in FIR.
C D Patel: As in FIR.
Amit Shah: As in FIR.
Anil Patel. As in FIR.
L Narayan. As in FIR.
Kalubhai Maliwad (MLA). Charges: Collaborated with Hirabhai Maliwad and other accused in perpetrating violence,in pursuance of the conspiracy.
Dilip Manubhai Patelv. As in FIR.
Maya Kodnani(MLA).As in FIR.
Niteen R Patel. As in FIR
Madhu Srivastava (MLA). As in FIR.
Rajendrasinh Patel. Collaborated with other accused in violence.
Dr K J Mehta. Perpetrated violence in collaboration with the accused.
Dr. Praveen Togadia (VHP international general secretary). As in FIR.
Jaideep Patel. As in FIR.
Babu Bajrangi (former VHP leader). As in FIR
Prof K K Shastri (now dead). As in FIR. He justified the violence against Muslims during the first week of riots as reported by the media.
Balubhai Rajput. Conspiracy.
K. Chakravarty (the then DGP) conspiracy with Chief Minister Narendra Modi and participating in the meeting chaired by Modi asking officials to let Hindus vent out their anger,failure to take action against the accused,subverting the criminal justice system,dereliction of his supervisory responsibility and professional commitment by not enforcing the Gujarat Police Manual regulations.
A K Bhargava(the then DGP). Conspiracy and failure to initiate action against the accused,failure to file affidavits before Nanavati commission,negligence in supervision of riot related cases.
G. Subba Rao (the then chief secretary). Giving false statement as evidence; failure to file affidavit before Nanavati commission.
Ashok Narayan (senior IAS officer). Giving false information; did not provide adequate data to Nanavati commission.
P C Pande (the then Ahmedabad police commissioner). Giving false information,delay in requisition and deployment of army,delayed the imposition of curfew in Ahmedabad city
K Srinivas (the then additional chief secretary). Giving false information,not taking action against print media publishing communally provocative reports,forcing closing down of relief camps in the first week of August 2002 to project a false image of normalcy.
Dr P K Mishra. Giving false statement,no minutes of the meeting held by chief minister and senior bureaucrats issued and instruction mostly conveyed through phones,resulting into field officers carrying out conspiracy of pogrom against minorities.
Kuldip Sharma (senior IPS officer). Making false statements; situation not made conducive for rehabilitation of victims,compromising with perpetrators of violence,inaction facilitating riots.
M K Tandon (senior IPS officer now retired). Giving false statements,facilitating riots,delays in requisition and deployment of army,compromising with perpetrators of violence.
K Nityanandam (the then home secretary). Giving false information; did not provide adequate data to Nanavati commission; no minutes of the meeting held by chief minister and senior bureaucrats issued; and instruction mostly conveyed through phones,resulting into field officers carrying out conspiracy of pogrom against minorities.
Rakesh Asthana (senior IPS officer). Making false statements,dereliction of duty in supervision of serious offences,compromising with perpetrators of violence.
A K Sharma. Situation not made conducive for rehabilitation of victims,compromising with perpetrators of violence,inaction facilitating riots.
G C Murmu (senior IAS official). Tutoring of witnesses (government officials) deposing before the Nanavati commission and issuing of threats and intimidating R B Sreekumar to ensure he does not tell the truth about communal riots.
Shivanand Jha (IPS officer). Furnishing false information.
D H Brahmbhatt (the then Panchmahals district collector). Giving false information,not taking action against print media publishing communally provocative reports,forcing shutdown of relief camps in first week of August 2002 to project a false image of normalcy.
Deepak Swaroop (senior IPS official). Making false statements, situation not made conducive for rehabilitation of victims,compromising with perpetrators of violence,inaction facilitating riots.
Sudhir Sinha (the Vadodara police commissioner). Played an unholy role for facilitating a few major witnesses of the Best Bakery case turning hostile.
K Kumarswamy (the then additional Vadodara police commissioner). Played an unholy role for facilitating a few major witnesses of the Best Bakery case turning hostile.
B S Jebaliya (senior IPS official). Did not supervise the investigators of riot cases against pro-BJP accused,compromised with perpetrators of violence.
D G Vanzara (senior IPS official). Responsible for many encounter killings.
Rahul Sharma. Situation not made conducive for rehabilitation of victims.
Raju Bhargava (senior IPS official). Making false statements,situation not made conducive for rehabilitation of victims,compromising with perpetrators of violence,inaction facilitating riots.
