With women comprising 55% of the 475 postgraduate students, CEPT (formerly known as Centre for Environmental Planning and Technology) University, Ahmedabad, commenced its monsoon semester on Monday, with admissions in 18 programmes across its five faculties – Architecture, Planning, Technology, Design, and Management.

Continuing the female majority, this is the fourth academic year where the batch has had more than 50% of women in the post graduate programmes. The students are from across 26 states and union territories, including Jammu and Kashmir, Dadra and Nagar Haveli, and Manipur.

Stating that there is growing diversity within postgraduate programmes, CEPT University Provost Tridip Suhrud said that the university is “committed to gender equity and fostering an inclusive environment”.

“A diverse classroom enriches the quality of education, broadens perspectives and helps students grow into professionals who are sensitive, equipped to take responsible and inclusive decisions, and thrive in diverse workplaces,” he said.

The students arrived a week ago for the orientation and the studio selection process. While the orientation familiarised the students with the campus and the facilities on campus, the studio selection process allowed students to align their interests and areas of study.

The studio process allows the students to choose from an array of studio units, which is offered every semester, with each faculty having a separate studio.

CEPT President University Professor Barjor Mehta said, “Our long-standing relationship with various industries has played a significant role in helping us upgrade our academic offerings and thereby aid holistic development, foster critical thinking, creativity, and problem- solving abilities in our students.”
