3 automakers given aid worth Rs 475 cr under govt scheme

Under Gujarat’s scheme for assistance to mega and innovative projects, the state government has provided aid worth Rs 475 crore to three automakers in the last two years — Suzuki, Hero Motocorp, and MG Motors.

Gujarat Industries Minister Balvantsinh Rajput gave the details in response to a supplementary question by Congress MLA Tusharsinh Chaudhary in the House on Monday,

The Congress leader also sought details of the assistance for the plants of MG Motor and Hero Motocorp in Halol, Panchmahal.

Rajput added that owing to the scheme, Gujarat has benefitted, and “Anand, Mandal (Ahmedabad), Becharaji (Mehsana) have become auto hubs” and “because of (the) international-level set-ups in Panchmahal, people of Vadodara and Panchmahal have benefited in many ways.”

Rajput, sharing details in response to Chaudhary’s question, submitted before the Assembly that Suzuki Motor Pvt Ltd was provided with financial aid worth Rs 288 crore in the past two years, MG Motor India Pvt Ltd was provided incentive worth Rs 87 crore and Hero Motocorp was provided Rs 1 crore as a financial incentive.
The scheme was first introduced in 2009 and has been extended from time to time thereafter.
