Equity MF inflows in May halve from last month: Data

According to data released by the Association of Mutual Funds in India (AMFI), systematic investment plan (SIP) contributions stood at an all-time high of Rs 14,748.68 crore in May.

Net inflows into equity mutual fund schemes declined by 50 per cent to Rs 3,240.3 crore in May from Rs 6,480.29 crore in April mainly due to profit booking.

According to data released by the Association of Mutual Funds in India (AMFI), systematic investment plan (SIP) contributions stood at an all-time high of Rs 14,748.68 crore in May.

Net assets under management (AUM) of the industry rose to Rs 43.2 lakh crore from Rs 41.61 lakh crore in the previous month. “We have seen consistent growth momentum in the mutual fund industry. Overall mutual funds have shown an uptick even in the midst of volatile markets. The mutual fund industry net AUM stands at Rs 43,20,468.34 crore as on May 31, 2023. Investors are choosing to invest in categories where they find value,” said N S Venkatesh, CEO, AMFI.

“The dip in the net inflows (in equity schemes) can be attributed to profit-booking actions due to a lack of patience arising out of an extended lull in the market,” said Jean Christophe, Director and Chief Marketing Officer, Sharekhan by BNP Paribas.

Net inflows into debt mutual funds stood at Rs 45,959.03 crore in May as against inflows of Rs 1,06,677.36 crore in April. Liquid funds witnessed inflows of Rs 45,234.22 crore in May compared to inflows of Rs 63,219.33 in April. Inflows into money market funds stood at Rs 8,731.06 crore in May compared to Rs 13,960.96 crore in the previous month.

The number of SIP accounts was the highest ever in May, at 6,52,84,902, compared to 6,42,34,057 in April. SIP AUMs stood at Rs 7,52,943.79 crore for May, compared to Rs 7,17,175.88 crore in the previous month. The number of new SIPs registered in May was 24,69,866.
