The Archaeological Survey of India submitted that the original file concerning the decision of not declaring Jama Masjid a protected monument was still not traceable.

The court has been directing the government to produce the original file since 2018. While the file was subsequently produced before the court, on August 28, the ASI submitted that the original letter dated October 20, 2004, written by the then prime minister Manmohan Singh was "missing" in the file concerned. The ASI officials had, however, assured the court that they were 'taking steps to trace the same'.

New Delhi, Feb 08 (ANI): Concerned over the detention made by security forces of Muslim youth allegedly linked to Islamic State (ISIS), Shahi Imam of Jama Masjid Syed Ahmed Bukhari on Monday called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and sought assurance that innocent Muslims would not be harassed in the name of Islamic State terrorists. Bhukari said that the entire Muslim community is against terrorism and added that stringent punishment should be not be given just for writing something on Facebook. He added that the minority character of the Aligarh Muslim University and the Jamia Milia Islamia were also discussed and said that Prime Minister Modi has promised to look into the matter.
