Animal welfare organisations such as People for Ethical Treatment of Animals and Federation of Indian Animal Protection Organizations have written to Union Environment Minister Jayanthi Natrajan requesting her to implement her ministry’s notification which bans jallikattu,a bull taming festival,even as many bulls and competitors were injured during the event this year.

Rs 20,000 reward for info on dog killing

Following the death of two dogs in a Thane housing society due to alleged poisoning,the Federation of Indian Animal Protection Organisations has announced a reward of Rs 20,000 for providing information leading to the arrest of those responsible. This is the second time in the month that the FIAPO has announced such a reward.

Ear cropping and tail docking of pets punishable offences

In September,the Animal Welfare Board of India issued an advisory that the non-therapeutic tail docking and cropping of ears of animals amount to mutilation,constitute cruelty to animals and is a punishable offence under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act,1960.
