Dayanidhi Maran, the son of former Union Minister Murasoli Maran and nephew of the late Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi, is a prominent figure in Tamil Nadu politics. His journey, marked by electoral success, business interests, and controversies, highlights the complex interplay of family influence, power, and public scrutiny.

Born in 1966, Maran graduated in Economics and entered politics in 2004, winning the Chennai Central Lok Sabha seat. He lost his seat in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections but was able to win it back in 2019 and then retain it in 2024.

During the UPA government's tenure (2004-2014), Maran served as Minister of Textiles and later Minister of Information and Broadcasting. He undertook projects like reviving textile mills and promoting digital broadcasting, leaving a mixed legacy. While supporters credit him with job creation and modernization initiatives, critics point to alleged irregularities in project execution and favouritism towards Sun Group-owned media outlets.

Maran's tenure has been clouded by corruption allegations related to spectrum allocation during his time as Telecom Minister. The CBI and ED are investigating these accusations, with charges levied against him and others. He has consistently denied any wrongdoing, maintaining that he followed due process. These ongoing legal battles continue to cast a shadow on his political image.
