D V Sadananda Gowda biography

Devaragunda Venkappa Sadananda Gowda, fondly known as D. V. Sadananda Gowda, is a stalwart in the Indian politics. Born on March 18, 1953, in Mandekolu, Madras State (present-day Karnataka), to Venkappa Gowda and Kamala, he completed his B.Sc., L.L. B. Educated at St. Philomena College, Puttur, Dakshina Kannada, Karnataka and Vaikunta Baliga Law Collge, Udupi, Karnataka.

His political journey began as a member of the Jan Sangh. After the split of the Janata Party in 1996, he joined BJP. He was elected as a Member of Parliament to the Lok Sabha from Bangalore North in the 2014 and 2019 Lok Sabha elections. In 2023, he announced his retirement from electoral politics.

He has served as the Union Minister of Chemicals and Fertilizers of India in the Second Modi ministry from November 14, 2018, to July 7, 2021, as the Minister of Statistics and Programme Implementation of India from July 5, 2016, to May 24, 2019, and the Ministry of Railways in the First Narendra Modi ministry.

He served as the 14th Chief Minister of Karnataka, and has also been to Lok Sabha from Manglore seat in 2004 and Udipi Chikmagalurseat in 2009.
