The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), which is investigating the alleged theft of coal from the mines of Eastern Coalfields Ltd, had arrested the seven on Wednesday.

The coal blocks allocation cases are among the CBI’s longest running probes, with the agency last registering a fresh FIR in the case in January 2020. It has since 2012 filed multiple chargesheets and even closed many cases for lack of evidence or culpability.

During investigation, CBI had further claimed that in 2003, Daga filed an undertaking to MoC stating his intentions to either install a plant or to develop a coal mine.
