Anurag Verma assumes charge as Punjab's 42nd chief secretary

Verma, a 1993-batch officer, succeeds Vijay Kumar Janjua, who retired on June 30. He is the 42nd chief secretary of Punjab and Verma will also hold the charge as principal secretary, personnel and vigilance.

His father, Prof. B.C. Verma, was a popular chemistry teacher at Mahindra College Patiala, where he later served as principal. His mother was an English teacher in a government school in Patiala and also retired as a principal.

He is the 42nd Chief Secretary of Punjab. The state government had sought without success an extension in the service of Janjua by writing a letter to the Centre two months ago. But the government did not get any reply till date.
