His debut in Imtiaz Ali’s Socha Na Tha (2005) launched him into the industry, followed by critically acclaimed performances in independent films like Manorama Six Feet Under (2007) and Oye Lucky! Lucky Oye! (2008). Deol’s portrayal of Dev in Anurag Kashyap’s Dev.D (2009), a contemporary take on the classic Devdas, marked a turning point, showcasing his versatility. His role in Zoya Akhtar’s ensemble hit Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara (2011) brought him wider commercial success and a Filmfare Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor. While balancing commercially successful films like Raanjhanaa (2013) and Happy Bhag Jayegi (2016), Deol continued to explore diverse characters in independent productions such as Road, Movie (2010) and Chakravyuh (2012). His recent work includes the Tamil film Hero (2019) and the Netflix series Trial By Fire (2023).
