With a day to go for the declaration of Gujarat election results, Dalit leader Jignesh Mevani on Sunday rubbished the exit polls and said the BJP would not form the government this time.

Mevani, who is contesting from Vadgam in Banskantha district, was on Sunday present at his constituency where re-polling was taking place. Polling at two booths under the Vadgam seat was suspended on Thursday during the second phase after ink marks were found on the election symbol of Independent candidate Jignesh Mevani on the EVM and a BJP candidate raised an objection. On Friday, the Election Commission ordered re-polling in six booths where polling was held on December 14 during the second phase.

Speaking to reporters on Sunday, the Rashtriya Dalit Adhikar Manch leader said, “Exit polls are nonsense. BJP is definitely going to lose this time and will not form the government.”

Even though Mevani is contesting as an independent, the Congress has given tacit support to the Dalit leader and has not fielded any candidate from Vadgam. Mevani shot to fame after organising movements against atrocities against Dalits in Una and leading a long march ‘Azadi Kooch’ demanding land for the community.
