Donald Trump praises himself, says ‘Putin is right, I am a brilliant and smart person’

"Russia's got plenty of problems. But I'll tell you what if Putin likes me, and he thinks I am a good, smart person which I hope he believes that I am, he's right," said Trump.

After Russian President Vladimir Putin showered effusive compliments on Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump for being a ‘flamboyant, talented man’, at a campaign rally in Iowa Trump praised himself saying ‘he is indeed a brilliant person’.

“Russia’s got plenty of problems. But I’ll tell you what if Putin likes me, and he thinks I am a good, smart person which I hope he believes that I am, he’s right… I am a brilliant person, you know that,” said Trump. “If he says something positive, its a good thing. That’s not a bad thing, They try to turn it around,” he added.

As for his stand on the Islamic State, it’s pretty clear cut: “Want to kill families of IS terrorists, shut parts of Internet in Iraq, Syria,” Trump had said during the GOP debate last week on CNN.

Here at a rally in Iowa, Trump said, “Anyone goes over to join ISIS, they ain’t coming back folks, Gone. Can you imagine they go over, fight for ISIS, they come back totally radicalised and we let them back in the country because they have a passport. Can you imagine this? I can’t even imagine.”

Trump, who called Putin “highly respected,” has frequently argued that his business background and ability to negotiate deals would allow him to improve relations with Russia. Putin had told reporters he welcomed Trump’s desire for better relations with Russia. “He is a very flamboyant man, very talented, no doubt about that. But it’s not our business to judge his merits, it’s up to the voters of the United States,” Putin had earlier said.

“He is an absolute leader of the presidential race, as we see it today. He says that he wants to move to another level relations, a deeper level of relations with Russia,” Putin added.
