In a major initiative aimed at cutting red tape and corruption in public offices, the state government is set to launch on October 2 at least 50 online public services, which include issuing birth and death certificates and caste certificates.

These online services will be provided through the state government’s Aaple Sarkar portal under the Right to Services Act.

The portal already has a grievance redressal system in place, a Right to Information service as well as collaboration services.

“It’s all about extending our e-services interface. We have many municipal corporations and councils already providing such online services. However, a citizen has to go to that site. In this case, this portal will be a one-stop site for all services. Applications would be tracked and the official concerned will be held accountable for not delivering the service in a stipulated time,” said P S Meena, Additional Chief Secretary at the General Administration Department.

Under the new system, people will be able to apply online, track their application and also make the necessary payments online.

Those who have access to Internet can use these services from home. Those who do not can go to the nearest citizen facilitation centre.

The state government has tied up with the Tata Consultancy Services for executing the project which will initially start with 50 services and add 100 more services in the course of time, officials said.

Under Aaple Sarkar, the portal has been receiving direct communication from people who have posting their grievances. With this additional service, such communication will be enhanced to bring about more transparency.

The website is https://aaplesarkar.maharashtra. gov.in.

In Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad, municipal corporations have already launched online services.
