Hyderabad: The Singapore government will work with the Government of Andhra Pradesh to help it develop a new capital city “around Vijayawada”.  An official delegation led by former prime minister of Singapore Goh Chok Tong met Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Monday and offered support to the state government. The CM informed the delegation about his plans of transforming Andhra Pradesh into a logistics and manufacturing hub.

The delegation offered to share their experience in designing the new capital city and ensure that it would encourage Singapore-based companies to participate in various port, airport, industrial and tourism projects. The Singapore delegation suggested to the CM that funds could be tapped from the proposed Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank — of which India is also a founding member. The delegation also extended an invitation to the CM to visit Singapore. The AP government’s committee on development of capital city will also visit Singapore and other capitals in the country and world to study their models. Besides Singapore, Putrajaya, Brasilia and Dubai would be studied.

Kokrajhar journo in judicial custody
Guwahati: Jaikhlong Brahma, Kokrajhar bureau chief of Guwahati-based private TV news channel NewsLive, who was arrested on September 2 for his alleged links with the outlawed NDFB(S), was sent to judicial custody for eight days by Kokrajhar ‘s Chief Judicial Magistrate Monday. Brahma was arrested on charges of providing information to the extremists.

India, Bangladesh to sign MoU on traditional medicine

New Delhi: India and Bangladesh will sign an MoU on cooperation in traditional medicine and homeopathy during Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan’s visit to Dhaka later this week.

“This is the age of holistic medicine. No single line of treatment is supreme. I intend to give the ancient wisdom contained in our evidence-based medicine a pride of place in public health, “ the minister, known for his emphasis on alternate systems of medicine, said before leaving for Dhaka Monday.

The MoU would cover exchanges of experts, training, mutual recognition of systems and provide further scope for research collaborations. He will also attend the 67th general meeting of World Health Organisation Regional Committee, which will be held in Dhaka, between September 9 and 12.
