Gupta is UP DGP, just before retirement

Gupta reached the DGP headquarters on Thursday evening and took charge from Banerjee.

The Akhilesh Yadav government on Thursday appointed 1977-batch IPS officer Arun Kumar Gupta as state’s new Director General of Police (DGP), a month before he retires from service.

Gupta who will attain the age of retirement on January 31, will hold the post of DGP till that date only, unless given an extension. The post of DGP had fallen vacant after the retirement of A L Banerjee on Wednesday. A native of Delhi, Gupta whose last posting was as DG in Police Recruitment and Promotion Board since August 27, 2014, is the senior most IPS officer of the UP cadre.
