Bihar DGP removed six months ahead of retirement

JD(U) sources said the state govt had started reworking its “social arithmetic keeping in mind next Assembly polls”.

The Bihar government Tuesday removed Abhayanand as DGP replacing him with 1980 batch IPS officer P K Thakur, who had been heading vigilance unit of the state police. Abhayanand, who is due to retire in December this year, has been posted as DGP, Home Guards. Abhayanand’s placement came two days after the state government carried out major reshuffle of IPS officers, including three officers, said to be close to Abhayanand. The timing of the move has raised eyebrows in bureaucratic circles. JD(U) sources said the state government had started reworking its “social arithmetic keeping in mind next Assembly polls”.
