TAKING A dig at Prime Minister Narendra Modi over his monogrammed suit, Rahul Gandhi on Sunday said the PM does not visit farmers as he fears that his suit might get dirty. “Modi ji hugs (US President Barrack) Obama, clicks selfie with him. He goes to China and again takes selfies. Have you ever seen him visiting a farmer’s house, hugging him or taking a selfie with him. No… because he fears that his clothes would get dirty… He fears that his Rs 15-lakh suit would become dirty,” the Congress vice-president said while addressing a public meeting in Mau on the sixth day of his Kisan Yatra.
The suit which Modi wore during his meeting with US President Barack Obama in New Delhi last year was auctioned later and bought for Rs 4.31 crore by Surat diamond baron and private airline owner Laljibhai Patel. While claiming that the PM only likes to visit foreign countries, Rahul said, “We want Narendra Modi to walk in the fields. We want him to walk on rural roads and that is why we have started this yatra.”
Earlier, Rahul, who addressed public meetings at several places in Azamgarh, attacked BSP and SP, saying while the “elephant” (BSP election symbol) has eaten all the money, the “cycle” (SP poll symbol) is standing “punctured”. “Haathi saara paisa kha gaya. Haathi ko apne maar ke bhaga diya… Phir aap cycle laaye. Ye paanch saal se phansi hui hai, hil nahi rahi hai. Uska tyre puncture hai aur apko ration card nahi dila pa rahi hai (Elephant ate all the money and you chased it out… Then you voted for SP’s cycle, which has remained stuck for the last five years. Its tyre is punctured and is not moving. The party could not provide ration cards to you),” he said.
Appealing to the people to vote for Congress in the elections next year, he added: “Now you should think about the hand (Congress’s election symbol) and then see what we do about ration (cards) and farmers.” Rahul completed his first leg of Kisan Yatra on Sunday. He had travelled 824 km from Deoria to Ghazipur across 12 districts of eastern UP. He held seven khaat sabhas, had lunch twice with Dalits and once at a madrasa.
He is now scheduled to take a break for two days. Before leaving for Varanasi to catch a flight to Delhi, Rahul announced a massive protest in the national capital after the Kisan Yatra. Rahul is set to start his next leg of the yatra on September 14. He will travel to Mirzapur, Bhadohi and Allahabad before moving towards Bundelkhand.
