Kashmir govt urges political stakeholders for support to restore normalcy

Naeem Akhtar said that concerns were raised over loss of lives during the clashes in the Cabinet meeting chaired by Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti.

“The Cabinet appeals to all the political stake holders and the parents to help the government in bringing back normalcy as soon as possible,”`PDP spokesperson Naeem Akhtar said.

In wake of the deteriorating law and order situation following protests over Hizbul Mujahideen commander Burhan Wani’s killing, the Jammu and Kashmir Government today appealed to the people not to agitate and sought the support of political stakeholders to restore normalcy as soon as possible.

“The Cabinet appeals to all the political stake holders and the parents to help the government in bringing back normalcy as soon as possible. The Cabinet was briefed about those injured presently undergoing treatment in various hospitals. The government will also pay for those who needs treatment outside the state,” PDP spokesperson Naeem Akhtar said.

“The Chief Secretary and DGP briefed the Cabinet on the measures taken and have been told to take necessary measures to ensure there is no loss of life. The government is looking into incidents where there has been disproportionate use of force,” he added.

Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh today chaired a high-level meeting in Delhi to review law and order situation in Jammu and Kashmir following protests over Wani’s killing.

Union Home Secretary Rajiv Mehrishi was present in the meeting along with Intelligence Bureau (IB) chief Dineshwar Sharma and other senior officials of the Ministry of Home Affairs.

The Home Minister also spoke to the Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister and assured her of all central assistance to deal with the situation.

Burhan, the poster boy of Hizbul Mujahideen, was buried in his native place Tral yesterday while violent mobs attacked installations of police and paramilitary forces at various places in the valley and set ablaze several buildings including three police installations.
