Bombay High Court allows Salman Khan to travel to Dubai

In yet another relief to Bollywood actor Salman Khan, the Bombay High Court Tuesday allowed him to travel to Dubai to perform at an award ceremony.

In yet another relief to Bollywood actor Salman Khan, the Bombay High Court Tuesday allowed him to travel to Dubai to perform at an award ceremony.

Vacation judge Justice Shalini Phansalkar-Joshi while allowing the actor imposed certain terms and conditions. The judge first asked him to furnish his entire travel itinerary of three days – May 27 to May 30.

Salman Khan was asked to inform the authorities about his flight number, details of where he was going to stay in the foreign country. In addition, the HC also asked him give his cell as well as landline number of place he is supposed to stay at.

Salman Khan’s lawyer said that the actor will submit his passport to the police within 12 hours of his return.

Salman Khan also has to furnish an additional security of Rs 2 lakh apart from informing the Indian consulate of his arrival when he reaches Dubai. The same will apply on his return. Salman will have handover his passport to the investigating agency within 12 hours of his arrival back in India, said Justice Phansalkar-Joshi.

The HC had May 8 suspended the five-year rigorous jail term handed to him by a sessions court. Admitting Salman Khan’s appeal against the conviction, the High Court had also expedited the hearing of the case.

The court’s order was a day before it went on vacation. Salman Khan was convicted on Wednesday on charges of culpable homicide not amounting to murder in the 2002 hit-and-run case in which one man died and four were injured. The men were sleeping on a pavement in suburban Bandra when Khan’s Toyota Land Cruiser ran over them.

The High Court also directed Khan, who did not appear in person, to surrender before the trial court forthwith and execute a bail bond of Rs 30,000 with one or two sureties of a like amount.
