Sandalwood tree cut, log stolen from alley next to residence of rural police chief

A complaint in this regard was registered at the Chatushrungi police station under the Indian Penal Code section for theft and relevant sections of the Urban Areas Protection and Preservation of Trees Act.

A sandalwood tree on the alley next to the official residence of Pune rural police superintendent on Pashan road was chopped and the log was stolen. The theft came to light when some police staffers found the remains of the chopped tree on Wednesday morning, according to the FIR.

A complaint in this regard was registered at the Chatushrungi police station under the Indian Penal Code section for theft and relevant sections of the Urban Areas Protection and Preservation of Trees Act.

Several such cases have been reported from the area in the past. Sub inspector D D Karande of Chatushrungi police said, “We have started an inquiry into the criminals with a past history of such offences.”

In June 2013, three sandalwood trees were chopped and the logs were stolen from the premises of Raj Bhavan on Aundh Road, known as the monsoon residence of the Governor of Maharashtra.

In September 2012, two sandalwood trees were stolen from the premises of the official residence of the police wireless wing head, on Pashan road.
