Mokshada Ekadashi is celebrated in Margashirsha during Shukla Paksha according to the Hindu calendar, which falls in late November and early December as per the English calendar.

This year, Mokshada Ekadashi tithi began at 9:29 PM on November 30, 2025, and will conclude at 7:01 PM on Monday, December 1, 2025.

The Parana timings for breaking fast will be observed on December 2, from 6:57 AM to 9:03 AM. On the same day, the Dwadashi tithi will end at 3:57 PM.

The word “Mokshada” means “one who grants liberation“, thereby highlighting devotees detaching themselves from the cycle of birth and death, ultimately achieving spiritual liberation, known as moksha.

On this day, followers engage in fasting and prayers and seek blessings for both their spiritual journey and material well-being.

According to Hindu legends, Lord Krishna preferred this month. Today, on the battlefield of Kurukshetra, Lord Krishna preached the Gita to Arjuna, Pandu’s son. As a result, Gita Jayanti is also observed on this date.

It is believed that devotees and ancestors who fast on Mokshada Ekadashi get salvation.
