A 34-YEAR-OLD software engineer allegedly killed her five-year-old son by slitting his wrist and then committed suicide by jumping off the fifth floor of the Sinhagad Road building where the family lived. The incident took place Sunday, which happened to be her birthday.
Police found a note in the house, which they suspect is Dipti More’s suicide note. Police said the incident took place around 7 am when Dipti’s husband Tejas (36) was also at home.
Tejas told the police that Dipti came to him and said she had killed their son and that she too did not want to live. “Tejas said when his wife told him that she had killed their son, he rushed to the room where Arnav was and saw him lying in a pool of blood with his wrist slit. By the time he came out of the room, Dipti had gone out of the flat and locked the door from outside,” said Sudhakar Pathare, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone II).

Police suspect Dipti went to the terrace of the building and jumped to her death. After she fell on the ground, some residents of the building rushed to the flat where the family lived and opened the door, getting Tejas out. After that, they rushed to the spot where Dipti was lying. She and Arnav were taken to hospital where they were pronounced dead.
“We found a note, which we suspect is a suicide note. But we would be able to ascertain that it was written by Dipti only after it is examined by a handwriting expert,” Pathare said.
“The sequence of events, as told to us by Tejas, seems to be corroborated by two things. Neighbours told us they opened the door from outside. Second is the suspected suicide note, which we believe was written by Dipti. Based on preliminary investigation, we have registered two cases, one of murder of Arnav and the other of death of Dipti, which is suspected to be a suicide. Further investigation is on,” said a police officer.
Tejas works for a multinational software company. Dipti too worked at another software company but had left her job three months ago. The police said she had gone to Jammu and Kashmir on a trip some days ago.
