Heavy rainfall hit parts of Kolkata on Monday. According to a report from news agency PTI, the rainfall, accompanied by gusty wind struck southern districts since the wee hours. The Met department has forecast more downpour and strong winds on Tuesday. There was waterlogging in some parts and uprooted trees blocked some thoroughfares causing traffic jams in the city during rush hours.

“A depression has formed over Gangetic West Bengal and adjoining north Bay of Bengal and lay centred about 50 km southeast of Kolkata at 5.30 am today,” the Met department said.

2:35 pm: Meanwhile, departure of flights from Kolkata airport were halted due to strong crosswinds, news agency ANI reported. At least 23 domestic flights were diverted, the report added.
