Police said Jaan Usman used to work for underworld don Abu Salem’s gang and had fired at singer Daler Mehndi and producer Rakesh Roshan.
A sharpshooter, who police said used to work for underworld don Abu Salem’s gang and had fired at singer Daler Mehndi and producer Rakesh Roshan, was arrested on Saturday.
Police said 35-year-old Jaan Usman alias Usman Khan was allegedly involved in a fake currency racket and extortion and murder cases in Delhi and Mumbai. He was declared a proclaimed offender.
Police on Saturday received a tipoff that Usman was going to meet an associate at ISBT Kashmere Gate. A police team arrested him from the spot. A countrymade pistol and three live cartridges were found on him.
“Usman disclosed that he went to Mumbai in 1996 where he came in contact with one Waseem, a sharpshooter from Salem’s gang.
Waseem was an accused in the murder of film producer and owner of T-Series Cassette Co Gulshan Kumar. Waseem reportedly introduced Usman to Salem,” Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) Ravindra Yadav said.
“Salem introduced Usman to one Aftab Bhatki, who was running a fake currency notes racket from Dubai and Karachi. Usman allegedly began pumping fake notes into the country through Nepal and Bangladesh but was arrested in Delhi in 2000. He moved to Mumbai after he was released from prison and started extorting money from Bollywood personalities. He never appeared in courts for the various cases against him and was declared a proclaimed offender. He is also known to have fired at Mehndi and Roshan,” Yadav said.
