Group to hold ‘protest screenings’ of film on riots

ABVP national executive council member Rohit Chahal warned that future screenings of the film will meet the same fate.

In response to recent incidents where the screening of a documentary, Muzaffarnagar Baaqi Hai, was disrupted in Delhi University and nearly stalled in Jawaharlal Nehru University, a cultural group called Cinema of Resistance (COR) has decided to organise “protest screenings” of the film across the country on August 25. So far, screenings have been planned in 13 cities.

“This is essentially a matter of freedom of expression. The way in which the right-wing ABVP (Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad) disrupted the screening of the documentary and indulged in rowdyism betrayed their true character. We want to make it clear that we will not allow them to censor us,” said COR national convenor Sanjay Joshi.
