New eateries were part of the tender awarded to a firm to set up 14 food and beverage outlets at the airport
THREE ADDITIONAL snack bars, along with a restaurant, would be opened at Chandigarh International Airport this month, said officials on Wednesday.
According to Chandigarh International Airport Limited (CHIAL), the new eateries were part of the tender awarded to a company to set up 14 food and beverage (F&B) outlets at the airport. “These new facilities will come up before Diwali. In total, four more food joints will be opened now,” CHIAL Chief Executive Officer Sunil Dutt told Chandigarh Newsline on Wednesday. He said many more outlets would come up at the airport. “The new food outlets will come up in different parts of the airport,” said Dutt.
The new terminal of the international airport was inaugurated in 2015. Since then, CHIAL has been adding one facility after the other at the airport. For not providing sufficient facilities, CHIAL has also drawn flak from the Punjab and Haryana High Court. The new terminal of the Chandigarh airport in Mohali was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The first international flight, however, started a year later. The authorities had also called fresh tenders to set up two duty-free outlets at the airport. But, they failed to get a good response from firms after extending the date of tender many a time. From Tuesday, watch hours at the airport were revised due to the work of upgrading the runway. The runway is no longer available after 4 pm for commercial airlines.
According to the Airports Authority of India, the Chandigarh airport has recorded a growth of 20 per cent passenger traffic in March 2016-17.
The fresh schedule, released by CHIAL, would remain in place from October 3 to 28. According to the new schedule, the first flight arrives at 7.10 am while the last flight would take off at 3.45 pm.
Test flight from Kullu via Chandigarh
According to Air India officials, one flight will touch down at Chandigarh airport from Kullu on Wednesday. The flight, coming from Kullu, would go to Delhi via Chandigarh. “It is a test flight and so far, nothing has been decided on whether there will be more such flights from the airport in time to come,” said an AI official based in Chandigarh.
The AI officials said there was also no confirmation about the Bangkok flight from Chandigarh which was planned to start this month. Air India has already added the flight in the winter schedule of the airport.
