Dairies of Motherhood

Actor Tara Sharma is all set to chronicle her life with her newborn on television

For new mothers, every moment with their babies is worth documenting. It is no different for actor Tara Sharma. Blessed with a boy,Zen,one and a half years ago,she chose to share the mother and child bond and this chapter of her life with the rest of the world on television. “I realised that I wanted to get back to work, but at the same time I was enjoying being a hands-on mum and didn’t want to leave Zen for a long period of time to go for outdoor shoots. So I racked my brain and that’s when the idea of chronicling this phase clicked — it is the most incredible journey of my life,” says Sharma, who has it all packaged in form of a show The Tara Sharma Show — Diaries of a New Mum.

A diary of her experiences and adventures as a new mother, the show captures different stages, from pregnancy to bringing up the baby. It is not patronising though, clarifies the actor.

“I strongly believe that each parent has their own way of doing things and we are not trying to say ‘do this or don’t do that’. Some things that we do may be helpful to new parents, and in the process they will also be thoroughly entertained,” she promises.

Co-produced by her husband Roopak Saluja, who runs the production company http://www.bangbang-films.com,with a content arm http://www.jackintheboxworldwide.com,the show travels with the family to Singapore,New York,Boston,Buffalo,Mumbai and South Africa. “Though I am hosting the show,Roopak is also part of it. I write a diary on a blog and audience feedback is welcome online,” says Sharma.

While the duo is still negotiating with television channels, the show is being backed by Fisher Price,Mattel and Mahindra’s Mom&Me. In the meantime,Sharma has planned a “show route-plan”,that will cover aspects associated with pregnancy and birth, including interviewing gynecologists, pregnant women and new mothers. It will suggest prenatal exercises, what to buy, different birthing techniques, and will include clips of Sharma travelling with Zen and celebrating festivals together.

“In New York,we have even shot the NYC things to do with a baby, for example the city has strollercize, which are exercise classes for mothers with babies in the strollers. There are camps for fathers, interviews with toy developers, engineers and so on,” says Sharma, adding that though expecting mothers get ample advice, they still face problems.

Even though most of the series is impromptu,Sharma has done her bit of research for writing,hosting,co-producing and directing the show. She feels her

20-month-old son is a fantastic co-star. “He is just himself,as I am — no big star. We are not considering putting him into films,he is very young now. Soon, when school starts, education will be of prime importance,” says the actor who also found time for a handful films, including Mumbai Cutting,Amavas and Sharat Kataria’s film 10ml Love starring Rajat Kapur,Purab Kohli,Tisca Chopra,Koel Puri and Neel Bopalan.
