While Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) chief K Chandrasekhar Rao signaled a possible shift to the BJP camp by appearing at the NDA rally in Ludhiana on Sunday, his partners in the grand alliance in Andhra Pradesh the Left parties and the TDP were hoping that the unpredictable leader would not ditch them.

For KCR,as Rao is popularly known,is learnt to have assured them that he was not joining the NDA and was attending the rally only because Akali Dal chief and Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal was an old friend who always supported the cause of Telangana.

Leaders of the TDP-led grand alliance in fact tried to get in touch with KCR,who has been camping in Delhi since last Thursday,to persuade him against attending the NDA rally. But KCR never came on line and his aides told the leaders, including CPI deputy general secretary S Sudhakar Reddy who called up from Hyderabad, that he was going to Ludhiana in his personal capacity and is not joining the NDA as of now.

KCR is still a part of the Mahakutami (grand alliance). Only after May 16,we will be able to know who is going to which side, senior TDP leader K Ram Mohan Rao told The Indian Express.

CPI(M) general secretary Prakash Karat was quoted by PTI as saying,The TRS has fought the elections along with the grand alliance against the Congress and the BJP. After the May 16 results let us see what they do.

While Rao switching sides to the NDA would definitely deal a body blow to the Lefts Third Front dream, what is worrying the red brigade and the TDP more is that the TRS is expected to play a crucial role in government formation in Andhra Pradesh as the party is poised to win around 30 Assembly seats. It contested nine Lok Sabha seats, the lions share in the Telangana region.

Sources in the Left said efforts were underway to make KCR stay with the grand alliance. We are trying to bring him back from the mess. He is a key player in Telangana and is vital for formation of the next government, a senior leader said.

If the TRS joins the BJP camp,it will send a wrong signal to the people of Telangana. It will amount to betrayal as we fought together against the BJP as well as Congress, said Sudhakar Reddy.
