Congress president Sonia Gandhi has cancelled her Srinagar visit, but she will visit Jammu on May 29,as per schedule,to inaugurate a Gujjar tribal culture centre. Though no official reason has been given, sources say that factionalism within the party has forced her to call off the visit.

J-K Pradesh Congress president Saifuddin Soz said,It has been postponed only for the time being.

Sources said that in the first week of May,Deputy Chief Minister Tara Chand invited Sonia to lay the foundation stone of a colony to re-settle Dal Lake dwellers at Rahk-e-Arth on the outskirts of the city. The plan included a rally, inauguration of a shopping complex,Sangarmal, constructed by the Srinagar Development Authority, and the Congress president taking a look at the Dal where foreign machines have been pressed into service to clean the lake. However, before inviting Sonia,Tara Chand did not take Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and JKPCC president Saifuddin Soz into confidence. Both were informed by Sonias office.
