Mulayam has become Modi of UP,says Ajit Singh

The SP and the BJP were hand in glove. But whatever happened was not in SP’s interest.

Hitting out at the Samajwadi Party government in Uttar Pradesh for its failure to control the communal riots,Rashtriya Lok Dal president and Civil Aviation Minister Ajit Singh on Thursday said that Mulayam Singh Yadav has become “Narendra Modi of Uttar Pradesh”. His son and party MP Jayant Chaudhary lambasted the SP for the “insensitive manner” in which the latter held its national executive “while people were grieving”.

“The SP and the BJP were hand in glove. But whatever happened was not in SP’s interest. It has hurt them politically. People are angry and you have seen even Muslim organisations blaming the state government. The entire state is feeling insecure. SP have overplayed their polarisation card,” Jayant told The Indian Express.

Ajit Singh, who was detained by the police Thursday while on his way to Bagphat, said,“There is no doubt that SP government has failed to control violence in the state. Had the government taken sufficient steps,it could have been stopped at that time. Mulayam has become Narendra Modi of Uttar Pradesh.”

“What Modi did in Gujarat was basically that he did not act. He stopped police from taking action and that is what happened in UP. It is total failure of UP government, which is spreading violence in the state,” said the RLD chief.

Stating that he is getting a “sense of conspiracy” behind the communal riots,Jayant said,“How can you explain the laxity and inaction when such elements were taking a rabid line? Four-five panchayats were organised by both sides and inflammatory speeches were made. They (government) must have had intelligence inputs about them. But nothing was done. No security measures were taken. When there was violence, the police did not act. There were obviously orders from above. Both Hindus and Muslims were feeling persecuted.”

“And look at the insensitive manner in which the SP held its national executive meeting. They were sitting in five-star amenities and talking about politics when people were grieving,” said Jayant.
