Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi today claimed that the state has taken a major leap in carbon emission controls.
Gujarat has earned 39 per cent out of 100 per cent carbon credits earned by the country,which shows state government’s serious concerns about addressing the issue of pollution and global climate change,he said at a function here.
The Gujarat Chief Minister,who laid the foundation stone of Ammonia Feedstock Conversion Project and Toluene Di-Isocynate project of Gujarat Narmada Valley Fertilisers Company Ltd (GNFC) at Bharuch town near here,said conversion of the plant from fuel oil to natural gas will help the Centre save Rs 444 crore.
“The ammonia plant feed stock conversion project being set up at GNFC will help in total annual saving of Rs 444 crore after the Centre approves GNFC’s feedstock conversion project from fuel oil to natural gas,” Modi said.
Gujarat government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the World Bank for carbon credits. Under this agreement,Gujarat launched a campaign to reduce carbon emissions from the state.
In return,the World Bank provides financial incentives to the state.
