With the Crime Branch having failed to trace Congress corporator Deepak Mankar, who is wanted in several land grabbing cases in the city,Police Commissioner Satyapal Singh has asked the deputy commissioners of all branches and zones to launch a search for Mankar.
Singh had called a meeting of deputy commissioners of all branches and zones of Pune police on Tuesday morning, where he asked them to get Mankar.
In another development, the city police on Tuesday submitted an application at the magisterial court to declare Mankar a proclaimed offender. We have submitted the application in the court. Once the court passes an order declaring Mankar a proclaimed offender,we will initiate the process of attaching his property, said Deputy Commissioner (crime) Anil Kumbhare.
Kumbhare said four complaints against Mankar are being verified. He said Mankars accomplices, former corporator Datta Sagare, builder Sudheer Karnataki and Sadhana Vartak, are wanted in a land grabbing case registered by senior citizen Yeshwant Natu at the Khadak police. The suspects allegedly threatened Natu and his family members with dire consequences and forced them to sign the property deal documents in March last year.
Police have received information about 56 properties in Pune city and district that are owned by Mankar and his family members. The Crime Branch is evaluating the cost of these properties. Police said investigation is being carried out to find out whether Mankar got any of these properties through forcible land dealings.
