The anti-terrorist wing of the Tamil Nadu Police arrested three Sri Lankan Tamils, suspected to be LTTE cadres, from Tiruchi on Sunday, and also seized a large number of detonators that were allegedly being taken to Lanka.
Police said Siva,Selvam and Tamizh were arrested and 4,900 ordinary detonators and 430 electric detonators recovered. For the police, this was the second success in the last few days, coming after the arrest and interrogation of a higher-ranking intelligence operative,Chiranjeevi Master,on June 16. Based on the information he provided, the three were nabbed. They had no connection with the rail track blast at Villupuram on June 12,police said.
Tamil Nadu coast has been on alert since the last phase of the war between Lankan army and LTTE to prevent the state from being used as a base,a vigil that has not been relaxed yet. With only days to go for the World Classical Tamil Meet,an extravaganza planned by the DMK government, the state has been on high alert.
The Home Ministry notification a month ago, while spelling out reasons for continuing the ban on LTTE,had claimed that the Centre has information that the activities of the LTTE remnant cadres, dropouts, sympathisers, who have been traced recently in Tamil Nadu suggest they… would ultimately be utilised by the LTTE for unlawful activities.
