The northeastern state of Mizoram will elect public representatives for its Assembly in a single-phase poll on November 7, 2023. A total of 40 constituencies will go for elections, out of which 39 seats are reserved for candidates belonging to Scheduled Tribe category. A little above 8.5 lakh people are eligible to cast their votes and the results will be announced on December 3. The term of the state Assembly expires on December 17.
Mizoram Chief Minister Zoramthanga’s Mizo National Front (MNF) will be looking to retain power going up against a rising Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM) and a Congress hoping to improve their score after the 2018 debacle.
The MNF had won in 26 constituencies in 2018 state polls while the ZPM had clinched 8 seats. Both the Congress and the BJP had put up a poor show securing only 5 and 1 seats respectively.
