This is the Catch Up on 3 Things for the Indian Express and I'm Utsa Sarmin.

It’s the 12th of April and here are the headlines.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi today said a historic step was taken to unite the Opposition parties and insisted that the grand old party will take all parties along in the ideological battle against the BJP in the 2024 general elections. Gandhi’s statement came after he, along with Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge, held a meeting with Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and his deputy Tejashwi Yadav in New Delhi.

Union Home Minister, while addressing party workers in Dibrugarh on Tuesday said that the BJP will win 12 of the 14 Lok Sabha seats from Assam and more than 300 seats across the country in 2024. Amit Shan also said that the Congress should know that Narendra Modi will become the Prime Minister for the third consecutive term.

Elon Musk said today that he did not know “what exactly happened” when Twitter took down content related to a documentary critical of Prime Minister Narendra Modi earlier this year. In January, India ordered the blocking of a BBC documentary which questioned Modi’s leadership during the 2002 Gujarat riots, saying that even sharing of any clips via social media was barred. Musk added, “The rules in India for what can appear on social media are quite strict and we can’t go beyond the laws of the country.”

Hospitals across the country participated in the two-day-long mock drill to check preparedness for treating Covid-19 patients as cases of the viral infection continue to rise. More than 30000 health facilities across 724 districts participated in the mock drill conducted. The healthcare facilities were checked for the availability of oxygen beds, isolation beds, ventilators, oxygen concentrators, etc. Today the Union Health Ministry said that India has registered a single-day rise of 7,830 new coronavirus infections, the highest in more than 200 days.

India today conveyed to the United Kingdom its concerns on the misuse of the European country’s asylum status by the pro-Khalistani elements to aid and abet terrorist activities in India. This came during the fifth India-UK Home Affairs Dialogue (HAD) held in Delhi. The Indian delegation led by Union Home Secretary Ajay Kumar Bhalla requested better cooperation with the UK and increased monitoring on UK-based pro-Khalistan extremists and take appropriate proactive action.
