WATCH | Under-construction bridge collapses in South Korea, 2 killed

In a tragic incident, at least two people died and five others were injured after an under construction bridge collapsed in South Korea’s city of Cheonan on Tuesday, Reuters reported.

The accident took place around 9:49am when five steel structures supporting the bridge collapsed one after another which were placed upon by a crane, news agency Yonhap reported.

Yonhap earlier reported deaths of three people from the incident but South Korea’s national fire agency later said that two people had died while five were injured. The fire agency added that four people who were injured remain in a critical condition.

According to a Reuters report, the administration was searching for another three people who are said to be buried under the rubble after the under construction bridge collapsed on Tuesday.

The dramatic footage of the bridge collapsing was aired by broadcaster YTN and it went viral on social media. The incident took place in Cheonan, which is south of the capital Seoul.

South Korea’s Acting President Choi Sang-mok’s office said to mobilise all available personnel and resources in order to rescue any missing person and to ensure safety measures to prevent any further damage.
