The Maharashtra Government is planning to request Prime Minister Narendra Modi to flag off the mega Pune Grand Tour 2026, a 437-km cycle race that will be held between January 19 and 23 on the lines of the Tour de France, said Deputy Chief Minister and Pune Guardian Minister Ajit Pawar on Monday.

The race, to be held in four stages, will pass through various terrains in Pune city and the district to test the endurance and expertise of the cyclists. It will pass through hilly areas, grasslands, and plateaus.

“The Pune Grand Tour is going to be a world-class event with the best in the sporting event participating in it,” Pawar said.

The state government has expressed its intention to make it an annual event, and a lot depends on the first experience in January 2026.

Of the four stages in Pune Grand Tour, the first segment of 91.8 km passes through Mulshi, Maval, and Pimpri Chinchwad. The second stage of 109.15 km passes from Pune, Purandar, Rajgad, and Haveli; the third stage of 137.07 km passes from Purandar and Baramati, while the last stage of 99.15 km passes from Pune, Haveli, and PCMC to end near Bal Gandharva in Pune city.

The administration is working on developing road infrastructure that is conducive to the international cycling event. A dedicated lane with barricades on both sides is being developed for the race, with beautification of the roads to attract enthusiasts and tourists to witness the event.

All facilities, including health and accommodation, for participants that are necessary as per the international standards will be provided during the event.
