US President-elect Donald Trump has announced his intention to nominate former Representative Doug Collins as secretary of veterans affairs.

Collins, a strong advocate for military personnel and veterans, will bring his expertise to ensure active-duty servicemembers, veterans, and military families receive the support they need.

As a former congressman representing Georgia’s 9th district from 2013 to 2021, Collins has a deep understanding of veterans’ issues. His experience as a chaplain in the United States Air Force Reserve Command will also serve him well in this role.

Collins’ background makes him a great fit for the position. He’s been a strong supporter of President Trump and has defended him during his impeachment inquiry. However, his nomination for Secretary of Veterans Affairs is not without controversy, given his history of divisive comments and actions.

The Department of Veterans Affairs, which employs nearly 371,000 healthcare professionals and support staff, provides crucial benefits, healthcare, and cemetery services to military veterans. As Secretary, Collins will oversee these services and ensure they meet the needs of our nation’s heroes.
