Trump ends ‘all trade negotiations’ with Canada over TV ads criticising US tariffs

US President Donald Trump announced on Thursday that he is ending “all trade negotiations” with Canada, citing what he described as “egregious behaviour” linked to recent television ads protesting US tariffs, reported the Associated Press (AP).

In a post on social media, Trump accused Ottawa of trying to influence US Supreme Court decisions through the ads. “TARIFFS ARE VERY IMPORTANT TO THE NATIONAL SECURITY, AND ECONOMY OF THE USA,” the president wrote.

The announcement followed comments from Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, who said earlier this week that his government plans to double exports to countries beyond the United States in light of the uncertainty created by Trump’s tariffs.

The White House has not yet specified when or if talks could resume.
