Nicholas Foxx, a Roanoke, Virginia resident, had a life-changing moment when a routine stop for an energy drink turned into a million-dollar win. While visiting family in Altavista, Foxx decided to buy some Virginia Lottery scratch-off tickets at the A1 Mini Mart on Main Street.

To his surprise, one of the tickets, from the “20X the Money” game, revealed a $1 million top prize. “I thought I was reading it wrong!” Foxx said. “You don’t know anyone who’s hit the lottery for that amount of money!”

Foxx opted for the cash payout of $625,000 rather than receiving the full $1 million over 30 years. His big win also brought good fortune to the A1 Mini Mart, which will receive a $10,000 bonus from the Virginia Lottery for selling the winning ticket.

The “20X the Money” game offers prizes ranging from $10 to $1 million, and Foxx’s win marks the fourth top prize awarded in the game. Two $1 million prizes are still unclaimed. The odds of winning the top prize are 1 in 1,958,400, with a 1 in 3.65 chance of winning any prize.

Every prize awarded by the Virginia Lottery helps fund K-12 public schools across the state, making Foxx’s win not just lucky for him but also beneficial for education in Virginia.

In a separate story, a 54-year-old woman in the US also experienced a surprising win. She discovered she had won over $207,000 in an online lottery after finding the notification in her spam folder. Initially skeptical, she was thrilled to learn her win was real.
