In a bizarre celestial phenomenon, stargazers in China were left astonished after witnessing what seemed to be seven suns shining simultaneously in the sky.
According to a report by The New York Post, the stunning sight was captured in a viral video filmed earlier this month by a woman identified as Ms. Wang at a hospital in Chengdu.
The mind-boggling footage shows the seven suns aligned in a row, each varying in intensity. Ms. Wang described how viewers were mesmerized by the unusual scene, which lasted for about a minute and was visible from multiple angles, as reported by Jam Press.
However, the phenomenon was not a real astronomical event but an optical illusion caused by light refracting through the layered glass of the hospital window. The seven suns were virtual images created by each pane of glass.
Social media users, particularly on the Chinese platform Weibo, humorously speculated on the cause of the optical trick. “We’ve finally uncovered the truth about global warming,” quipped one user, while another joked, “This happened because of a magnetic field glitch that made parallel universes visibly manifest. The Cosmic Bureau has fixed the issue, and those responsible have been reprimanded.”
The viral phenomenon also sparked interest on Reddit, where users drew comparisons to a Chinese myth in which the legendary archer Hou Yi shoots down nine of Earth’s ten suns to prevent the planet from burning.
