The leaflet, written in Arabic and circulating online, was reportedly distributed in Khan Younis in southern Gaza. (Reuters)Israeli planes dropped leaflets over southern Gaza on Saturday showing a picture of the deceased Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar, accompanied by the message, “Hamas will no longer rule Gaza”, reiterating Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s words, reported news agency Reuters.
The move followed Israeli airstrikes that killed at least 32 people across Gaza, further tightening the siege around hospitals in Jabalia in the northern part of the enclave, according to Palestinian health officials.
According to a report by Reuters, the leaflet, written in Arabic and circulating online, was reportedly distributed in Khan Younis in southern Gaza. It stated: “Whoever drops the weapon and hands over the hostages will be allowed to leave and live in peace”, reflecting a statement made by Netanyahu on Thursday after Sinwar was killed by Israeli soldiers in Rafah, near the Egyptian border, on Wednesday.
Sinwar was believed to have orchestrated the October 7 attack on Israeli communities a year ago, which left around 1,200 people dead, with another 253 taken as hostages to Gaza, according to Israeli reports.
Since then, Israel’s war on Gaza has led to the deaths of more than 42,500 Palestinians, with an additional 10,000 presumed dead beneath the rubble, according to Gaza’s health authorities.
The Palestinian health ministry reported that Israeli strikes targeted the upper floors of an Indonesian hospital in Beit Lahiya, with forces opening fire at the hospital’s building and courtyard, causing panic among patients and medical staff.
At Awda hospital in Jabaliya, airstrikes hit the top floors, injuring several staff members, according to a statement from the hospital.
In central Gaza, at least 10 people, including two children, were killed when a house in the town of Zawayda was struck, according to an AP report. In a separate incident, a strike on the al-Maghazi refugee camp killed 11 people from the same family.
