Israel has launched a new round of airstrikes on Iran, targeting what it says are missile launchers and military infrastructure, according to a statement by the Israeli Air Force posted on X. The attacks follow overnight strikes that hit nuclear and military bases as well as residences of Iranian officials, BBC Persian reported.
Blasts were heard in Tehran for the second time in a day, with videos circulating online showing explosions in the west and other parts of the city. Iranian state media has not aired the videos but has been broadcasting statements from officials promising to respond to Israel’s actions.
According to a report by BBC Persian, fresh attacks came after Israel said it “continues to strike” Iranian military targets. Brigadier General Effie Deffrin, Israel’s chief army spokesperson, said, “Some 200 Israeli fighter jets participated in the operation, striking some 100 targets,” and added that the attacks were still underway. He also said that Israel had intercepted over 100 drones launched by Iran in response.
An Iranian outlet close to the government said two explosions were heard near the Fordow nuclear site, located near the city of Qom, the Associated Press reported. Iran’s Mehr news agency said there was also a strike in the city of Isfahan.
Separately, Reuters said the Israeli military is working to intercept a missile fired from Yemen towards Israel, with air raid sirens sounding in Jerusalem, according to a military statement.
