At Amsterdam climate march, man interrupts Greta Thunberg’s address after she invites Palestinian, Afghan speakers on stage

“As a climate justice movement, we have to listen to the voices of those who are being oppressed and those who are fighting for freedom and for justice. Otherwise, there can be no climate justice without international solidarity,” Thunberg said.

Days before the national election in Netherlands, Greta Thunberg was briefly interrupted on stage by a man after she invited a Palestinian and an Afghan woman to speak during a climate protest in Amsterdam, in presence of tens and thousands of people.

“As a climate justice movement, we have to listen to the voices of those who are being oppressed and those who are fighting for freedom and for justice. Otherwise, there can be no climate justice without international solidarity,” Thunberg said, allowing the women to take the stage, quoted AP.

The man, who approached Thunberg on the stage told her that he’s “here for a climate demonstration, not a political view.” As per the AP report, the man’s identity was not immediately clear.

The incident came after a sea of people marched through the streets of Amsterdam calling for more climate action to tackle climate change, in a mass protest just 10 days before a national election. Organizers also claimed that 70,000 people took part in the march and called it the biggest climate protest ever in the Netherlands.

Ahead of Thunberg’s address, a small group of activists also waved Palestinian flags and chanted pro-Palestinian slogans. She appeared undeterred and was later seen dancing behind the stage as band played.
