A student at Palm Bay Magnet High School in Melbourne, Florida, was taken into police custody on Monday after allegedly stabbing another student with scissors during a fight. The incident led to a brief lockdown of the school.

The quarrel occurred between two male students, resulting in one student being stabbed in the abdomen and the other sustaining a cut on his hand. Both were transported to separate hospitals, but the extent of their injuries is not yet known.

School officials have described the situation as an “isolated incident” and assured that there is no ongoing threat. Despite this, parents were understandably anxious, with some rushing to the school to check on their children.

Mary Lamanna, whose daughter attends Palm Bay Magnet High School, voiced her concern, saying, “When you have to go and leave your kids at school and wonder if they’re going to come home alive, there’s something wrong.”

Students and parents expressed worries about safety measures at the school. Ariana Kinsch, a student, suggested that the school “needs metal detectors because it’s out of control.”

The incident has raised questions about the school’s security protocols. While one student was initially reported to be in police custody, a spokesperson for the Melbourne Police Department later clarified that no students were currently in custody.

It remains unclear whether charges will be filed against either of the students involved.
