Mahashivratri Bank Holiday 2025: On the auspicious occasion of Maha Shivratri today, Wednesday, February 26, public and private sector banks in several Indian cities will be closed.

The Mahashivratri bank holiday will be celebrated under the RBI’s ‘Holidays under Negotiable Instruments Act’ provision.

Bank holidays in India vary depending on regional festivals, although, in addition to both scheduled and non-scheduled bank holidays, banks are closed nationwide on the second and fourth Saturdays of each month.

According to the RBI Holiday Calendar 2025, public and private sector banks across 22 cities in India will be closed, while the remaining few will operate today.

Banks to observe closure on Maha Shivratri 2025:

Both private and public banks in Ahmedabad, Aizawl, Belapur, Bengaluru, Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Chandigarh, Dehradun, Hyderabad (both in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana), Jaipur, Jammu, Kanpur, Kochi, Lucknow, Mumbai, Nagpur, Raipur, Rachi, Shimla, Srinagar, Shimla, Thiruvananthapuram will be closed today on Maha Shivratri.

Although physical bank branches may be closed, online banking services will continue to function. Customers can utilize net banking, mobile banking, and UPI services seamlessly.
